On November 15, 2016 in Athens an official state diner was held in honour of Barack Obama, during his final state tour as President of the United States. It was hosted by President of Greece Prokopis Pavlopoulos and Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras. During the diner both presidents exchanged their shared viewpoints on democracy, social justice, integration and rise of right wing populism. While the presidents were conversing about democratic values over the diner, thousands of Greeks demonstrated against austerity measures, capitalism and US imperialism, which all together created a cocktail of “deep and prolonged economic and social crisis, which is plaguing our country and our people“, as President Pavlopoulos expressed, pointing partially at the EU as one of the agents of crisis in Greece. This event was the latest example on how the elite notion of democracy is shaped and alienated through detachement manifested by immersion in “cuisinière bourgeoise“.

With symbolic reconstruction of certain aspects of the presidential diner, Tomáš Uhnák will suggest levels of (im)possibilities of participation on democratic principles and will suggest mechanisms of detachment and alienation from the rest of the society by accessing and owning the sources, and impossibility of interaction while being in exclusive - elite position. Reconstruction of the presidential menu will serve as a tool to achieve these implications.
